Sustainability is becoming a pressing need, not only in the fashion sector, but across all sectors towards leading a greener, and healthier lifestyle. It is no secret that the fashion industry is the second largest water polluter in the world and produces around 8 percent of global carbon emissions. Hence, looking at this notorious impact of the fashion industry on the environment, it is imperative to opt for sustainable brands that intend to serve the needs of eco-conscious consumers. But, before squandering your time and hard-earned money on brands that falsely claim to be sustainable, it is vital to know the names of a few genuine sustainable brands that stand true to their beliefs and ethos. So, let’s dive deeper to understand who these brands are and what makes them distinct from other sustainable brands.

  1. Patagonia

Founded by Yvon Chouinard in the year 1970, Patagonia is one of the early brands to implement sustainable practices in their supply chain management. Patagonia is well-known to manufacture its products by using recycled fabrics like Polyester, Nylon, and Wool. Not only this, but Patagonia also once ran a thought-provoking campaign that said: “Don’t Buy This Jacket” to encourage its consumers to apply the mantra of “less is more” in their lifestyle.

2. Stella McCartney

Prominently known for designing leather-free and fur-free apparel, Stella McCartney has marked a niche in the world of ethical fashion. Stella McCartney is a leading designer who pushes her boundaries every day to bring substantial improvements to the fast fashion industry. Her products, including bags, shoes, jumpsuits, coats, dresses, etc., are designed using 100% Organic Cotton, Sustainable Viscose, Econyl Regenerated Nylon, Mushroom Leather, and many other innovative fabrics.

3. Eileen Fisher

1984 was the year when Eilen launched a collection of four simple garments which went on to become a massive success at a boutique show in New York City. Since then, Eileen has expanded many retail stores across the world and worked on various conscious business practices to provide fair wages and benefits to laborers, reduce carbon footprint, increase transparency in the supply chain, and implement responsible practices in dyeing. Apart from these, her super-comfy clothes are made using organic Cotton and Organic Linen which makes it a quintessential brand for all eco-conscious consumers.

4. Mara Hoffman

I do hear from a lot of people that sustainable clothing is not fun and often they find the same earthy and neutral color ensembles. I agree, but maybe you have not come across Mara Hoffman’s designs. From ready-to-wear pieces like Sweater, Jumpsuits, and Pants to Swimwear essentials like Bikini Bottoms, Bikini Tops, Coverups, etc., Mara Hoffman ensures to use of natural, recycled, and organic fibers that give a chic look to modern women. Some of the materials being used by Mara Hoffman include Hemp, Econyl, Organic Cotton, Tencel Lyocell, etc.

So, the next time you want to buy some chic, ethically made clothes, make sure to check these genuine sustainable brands. I’m sure this article will help you in your shopping decisions in the future.
